About Us

In today's world where globalization is increasing, it cannot be disregarded that the ability to specialize in a language and use this language is the most important tool of social, economic and cultural integration. It is undeniable that the need for qualified and professional translators who will make the interaction between English and national/local languages is increasing, especially in today's world, where information and technology go beyond national borders and take place in all kinds of international platforms. In order to meet such a need,Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Department of Translation and Interpretation  was established under the School of Foreign Languages with the aim of raising well-equipped translators with self-confidence who manage to work wherever there exists intercultural communication and interaction, the initial foundations of which were laid in the academic year 2010 - 2011. In our department,  students were initially accepted   in the 2013 Academic Year,  and there exist six Departments and the Department of English Translation and Interpretation is actively in function. The  first graduatees were in the 2017-2018 Academic Year.

The objective of our department is to train qualified and well-equipped translators, and by enabling our graduates to specialize in written and oral translation from English to Turkish and from Turkish to English, various public and private sector organizations (e.g. ministries, to provide employment in various fields such as universities, tourism and foreign trade companies, banks) and the media (for example, news agencies, television and newspapers).

In addition to specializing in English as the initial foreign language, undergraduates of the Department of English Translation and Interpretation also learn German, French, Russian or Arabic as a second foreign language. Our students benefit from exchange programs such as Erasmus and Farabi. There are a couple of computer laboratories in our department, and interpreting courses are delivered in these classrooms.

Our students are encouraged to participate in activities to be organized to ensure their integration with the students of other Translation and Translation and Interpreting departments.

We welcome young, dynamic students who want to develop their skills and devote themselves to their profession.
